Convert endnotes to static text in Microsoft Word

Okay, I normally really like Microsoft Word. I've gotten used to everything and can make some really great documents. However, I need help:

How do I convert endnotes and footnote citations to static text? I have a paper I'm submitting for publication and the citations keep being converted to roman numerals instead of arabic when other people open it. It is really annoying and embarrassing.

I've tried CTRL-SHIFT-F9 and that works for everything except endnotes and citations. The VB script ActiveDocument.ConvertNumbersToText does not work for endnotes or citations either.
