iPod touch "Convert Selection for iPod"

Does anyone know the specifications of the output file if you convert a video in iTunes by clicking, "conver selection for iPod"? and does this work well for the iPod touch?

it doesnt give me an option for that, and on my computer it takes a long time to convert, so I would rather know before hand how good it is
