I have a 2600-song lossless library. When I was using Apple Lossless, all 2650 songs converted to 128Kbps on the fly without a problem.
Then for archival purposes, I switched to AIFF. Now, it says it doesn't have enough space for the converted 128Kbps library!

iTunes is acting really weird! I confirmed through my tests that both Apple Lossless and AIFF versions of a song will result in the exact same size 128Kbps AAC copy when converted, but iTunes keeps saying that I will run out of space if I use AIFF but not when I use ALAC.

Anyone know a fix to this? I tried everything short of a restore, which I really do not want to do currently. Thanks.

P.S. I can totally hear the difference between ALAC and AIFF. WOW!

Maybe I'm missing something, but...

I suspect that since your AIFF files take up about twice as much space as your Lossless files, there is now not enough remaining space for the 128 kbps versions.

Your suspicions are wrong; I have around 130GB free out of 500GB at all times.
