Hello-

I got an email from my uncle yesterday asking what the best way would be for him to convert his old Vinyl to digital for preservations sake.

I didn't know the good answer off hand seeing as the iMac really has one input option (the mic port) so I figured I'd ask around here. I had read something about a USB turntable, but I'm not sure he needs/wants to spend that much.

Thanks!

I done it recently as follows:

Turntable>Amp > Audio out to Audio in (mic) on Mac.

I recorded using CD Spin Doctor which comes with Toast, then enhanced the audio in Garageband, but with hindsight I see no reason why I couldn't have recorded straight to Garageband.

Hope this helps.

Cool. Julien, I stumbled on that TTUSB right after I posted this.

Looks good.

I'm sure the other solution will work fine too, I'm not sure if my uncle currently has a working turntable or not, so if he doesn't I'm sure he'll just pick that TTUSB up, it seems pretty easy.

If he has a turntable i'll recommend Southernboy's method.
