I have a 24" iMac with the infamous failed NVIDIA GPU in it. I'm going to see how much it would sell for in this unstable state, but if it does not sell for much, I want to convert it into a monitor for my new 2008 Mac Pro I am getting (well, if you count 2008 as new).
I am comfortable with opening my iMac and changing whatever must be changed. Is there a way to get a VGA input to go into the LCD on the iMac? I'm not sure how these things work, but I'd imagine that some kind of intermediate chip would be necessary. I am willing to spend a little bit of money to get this beautiful display working if I must buy another part. Or is VGA directly compatible with these LCDs with some cable splicing?
Fortunately, I got a real soldering iron for Christmas last year instead of those stupid AA battery ones, so I can do any cable splicing I need to do.
