Converting a playback DVD into a quicktime file or a file that can be used in iMovie.

I have a dvd than I need to edit, out of town hours on this dvd I have selected the parts I need. I have to take part of the dvd footage and make it a quicktime file or any other file that works with iMovie. What software do I have to buy? Does Quicktime Pro do this? I don't want any software that is going to screw up my computer or anything that is crazy complicated. I don't mind paying. This is super important, I'm editing a video for a friend's funeral and I really need to get this footage of her off this dvd and into something that I can cut into iMovie. Please help. Thanks!
