My samsung NV11 camera records videos in the AVI format. When I upload them, quicktime just has a white screen while the audio plays when i try to watch. Any good converter or update to make it so i can edit said videos in Imovie HD

I believe iMovie requires .dv files for editing. Your best best is to use VisualHub to convert the avi to dv, then bring that into iMovie.

Install Perian. It's a whole bunch of codecs for QuickTime, the framework that iMovie is based on. Includes AVI support, and doesn't cost a penny :)

techspansion is no more, and i've got perian installed but imovieHD still won't jive with my avi files :( any ideas? i get parsing errors.

i'd like to also figure out the best way to dedicate a computer to capturing and storing in a way that will work for editing in imovieHD; the rub is that this computer is a PC.

would love any and all feedback! thanks!

You can convert them to dv using MPEGStreamclip. Its free and quick.

VH is dead. Use StreamClip.
