converting down HD to watch on ipod?

what is the best way to take a HD clip and convert it to watch on an ipod? i have been using compressor, and it looks alright on the ipod, but if i blow it up any, it looks horrible.

in other ipod files that i have, they don't look horrible when blown up some. (ripped dvds using handbrake)

basically i have an eyetv hybrid, and i want to put the high definition files on my ipod, but also be able to watch on my computer as well (without all the space taken up by hD)
