Ok I am formatting a HDD at the moment, basically when I partitioned it only allowed mac formats, but I want one half in journal and one in NTFS. So I was thinking that if I could converts one partition to FAT32 then plug into windows machine and format in NTFS on that one, but it won't let me format from journal to fat32 it seems.

Any ideas?

Try Bootcamp?

The Bootcamp software from Apple (amongst of course is prepping your mac for inastallation of Windows) allows the partitioning of your drive(s) into a native Mac and Fat32/NTFS partition.

Download and install the software and only select the partioning section of the bootcamp software.

I'm not sure if this can be done on an external drive though.

My external drive died 3 days ago:( so I cannot try this out.
