Converting older contacts file?

I'm having an issue - I used WinSCP on my old iPhone to save all of the preference and et cetera folders as a backup. Now I have a larger iPhone 2G running the newer firmware, and I can't get it to accept my contacts file. It's in a sqlite format, and I've looked in a text editor... they look to be basically the same format, but I'm not able to get the contact list to show up when I dump the old file to my iPhone, in either the /var/mobile/Library/AddressBook nor the /var/root/Library/Addressbook. I believe those are the paths. Anything I'm missing, or any way to import these? I've gone through three different computers since I switched phones.
