hi all,

i have a pdf but i've lost the pages document it was derived from

does anyone know how i can change it back to the pages document?

Acrobat Professional will allow you to save a .pdf in various formats, including Word.doc and .txt and .rtf

That's at least a start for you

There may be a utility out there that will give you more flexibility in file formats
Try Googling and see what happens

I actually have a small program called pdf2word that will convert a pdf doc to a word doc. It messes up the formatting occasionally and editting is a hassle; it's certainly not perfect. I've had it for years so I don't remember where I got it, and it only runs on windows.

Ha! That's a good one.:p All kidding aside, I'm very interested in the responses you'll get from this. Good luck.:)
actually this is a genuine situation...
we have the prior versions of the pdf document but no one knows where the current one is and we need to update it again
i figure instead of matching the older one with the newer one and altering the older one to look like the newer one (there are a lot of changes) it would be easier if i could convert the older pdf back to pages...

MacDawg, i've tried googling, i get nothing but programs that claim to convert it back to word documents... i suppose that would be useful, but i don't think it would keep everything...

redwarrior, what a shame i'm running on a ppc :p

PM me. Send me the doc, if that's ok, and i'll try to convert it for you... If you want.

Does it have graphics?
If not, or if you have the original graphic work you might still be able to make it work

I will make the same offer as Red
PM me and I will send you my email and you can send me the Doc
I will try to make it work for you if you like
(you are in luck... I just happen to have some free time to kill!)

Converting to Pages may be a stretch... but going through another format might be possible

hmm,

the guy behind me can run windows on his mac, so i'll see if he can anything

if not i'll pm you

thanks for the offer!

MacDawg, thanks for the offer too, it does have graphics in it, but i'm sure they are lying around somewhere or that i can just screen capture them off if they don't exist already

you know what? i'll just send it to you both anyway and see what your results are :)

alrighty,

the guy behind me came out with reasonably good results

it didn't keep the header and footer as a header and footer (understandable i guess)
it didn't keep the TOC (understandable too i guess)
and it decided that it would change the colours of the pictures (not quite understandable, but it's nothing harmful)

he used this site here:
www.pdftoword.com

it's free and it emails you the result
