Is there a way for macs to convert an swf file to a gif file? I have looked at online converters, and programs for mac and as of yet, I have yet to find one that can.

Do you have the fla file and Flash? If so then you can export as a gif animation. Or, was the swf created with Flash 5 or lower? If so then you should be able to open it in QuickTime or any QuickTime based application and export it as a gif animation.

I tried quicktime and it did nothing. I did real media and it said it couldn't read it. I tried divx player and it couldnt' read it and the same with vlc player.

QuickTime can only read Flash 1-5. If nothing happens then it must be from 6+.

Do you have Flash? If not then you could download the 30 day free trial from Adobe. With the trial open up the swf then export it as a gif, you can set the settings in the publish options.
