Converting widescreen (853 x 480) to iPhone... help!

I ripped a portion of a widescreen movie with MPEG Streamclip. The size of the .dv file is 853px x 480px. When I try to convert it for use on my iPhone it doesn't come out with the correct aspect ratio. I've tried using Handbrake and Visualhub. As a matter of fact, Handbreak thinks it is 720px x 480px and Visualhub is even more screwed up (it thinks it is standard size).

Any ideas?
