Another day, another dead PC tower to add to the collection.

I just finished university, and I've become adapted to using Macs (and it's very hard to go back). I live at home, and the family PC has died, adding another PC tower (about 4 in as many years) too the PC graveyard. Now my mum has decided she would like to upgrade to a IMac considering how long her Macbook has lasted despite the damage and torture it has been through (4 years, 2 cups of tea and she still has a macbook that works better than my Dad's laptop after 2 months out of the box).

The thing is we aren't rich (especially me), and the money that my mother wants to put into a imac is the holiday fund for next year. I can understand the hesitation, but trying to convince my dad, an avid PC user, that buying a £600-£1000 Imac is cheaper than buying a PC every 2 years or so. He's never really had experience with a Mac.

So what I'm asking is a list of reasons to try and convince him to put them money down, other than it being useful for me (as a producer) and my mother (as a artist) and try to make him see that I'm not just doing it because "I want a Mac".

I've binned 4 iMacs in since I started using Apple products and my latest one is showing issues as well.

Get. AppleCare, you'll regret not doing it.

just have your Mom convince him ... A happy wife is a happy household.

most men that have been married for any length of time have already learned this ... enjoy your new iMac :D

Mac's die too , at least since 2004 its a quiet common sight to see a dead or half dead Mac if it isn't a eMac G4 1.42(but those run OSX Tiger which made me switch , everything after wants me to switch back to linux
But apple care has absolute priority before any other upgrade or downgrade if you get a new Mac
the only Mac i would now consider to buy NEW is a MacPro (westmere xeons ), but i still need to pay for them by myself so its only hypothetical , i see myself if i ever need a NEW computer to go back to PC and windows/linux again
as i had to install windows7 for business now , i have to say quiet impressed with it and find myself using it more often then OSX snow leopard (didn't use it often thought as i still prefer OSX tiger )
so if i would be your dad , i would get a dell pc and spend the rest on a all inclusive caribbean island holiday without family if they dont agree :D
