Pulse news reader got bought by LinkedIn. They updated the app and ruined it completely. I sync to the cloud so I couldn't get the old version back.
Then I remembered I still had the old version on my iphone. Rather than transfer gigabytes worth of apps to iTunes just to grab one, I used iExplorer to copy the pulse.app to my desktop.
I then dragged the app to iTunes and synced it to my ipad. Oddly, the app had no icon in iTunes. I figured it wouldn't work but it did.
As a byproduct, somehow the ipad doesn't think Pulse needs updating, or doesn't realize it's actually installed, because I no longer see the update for it in the App Store on the ipad. This means no annoying update badge and I can "update all" without fear of losing the old version of the app.
YMMV.
