I know RAM has been covered extensively, but I couldn't find anything which covers this particular question.

I'm looking to get up to 8GB ram which I feel will be enough for me, but want to check out which configuration will generate the least heat, and therefore fan noise.

What would run cooler, 2x4GB sticks (as there are less sticks to cool) or 8x1GB sticks (as the heat is theoretically spread over a larger area).

Any thoughts?

4GB X 2 lowest power draw/ run coolest

2GB X 4 more power draw/more heat but better memory bandwidth/performance

1GB X 8 highest power draw/ most heat but also similar memory performance to 2GB X 4 ( slight penalty for memory access to branch 2 ).

Without regard to capacity EACH FB-DIMM draws about 15 Watts ( about even between DRAM and AMB ).

Thanks. Sounds like 2GBx4 will be the 'sweet spot' for me (and I suspect many other owners)
