Is it possible to assign a copy and paste function to a 3rd mouse button in OSX?

I believe so. I'm not 100% on how symbl works, nor do I know if someone has developed a plugin that accomplishes this yet. But it seems like someone should have come up with this since a lot of people really want this feature.

You can also use Gestures with Xgestures.

Draw a gesture, like "Mouse Down" by pressing the right mouse button, and you can perform a CMD+C, "Mouse Up" and you do a CMD+V. You can set them up your self, make the global (all applications) or application specific.

I use Xgestures a lot, but only to emulate Opera's mouse gestures in Safari.

PS: It does work, I just tried it.
