Is there any way to do this? I'd like to be able to select a picture in iPhoto, copy it to the clipboard (using the "Copy" command from the "Edit" menu in iPhoto) and then paste the image into a Microsoft Word document. This seems like one of those things that should "just work", but it doesn't.

So far the only way I've found to do this is to (1) export the picture from iPhoto into a file on disk and then (2) insert the picture into the Word document; but that's pretty tedious.

I just tried it and got the same result. The picture is on the clipboard because I successfully pasted it into Notetaker, it seems that Office (2004 at least) doesn't recognize like it and grays out the Paste option - I tried pasting into Powerpoint and couldn't do that either. I agree that this should 'just work'. Weird.

In "organize" mode, drag the photo into your MS word document.
This works like a charm; thanks very much!

I still think that copy & paste should have worked as expected, though. ;)

Yeah, it's weird that cut and paste from iPhoto doesn't work. Another way to do it would be to specify Preview as your external editor. Then you can double click on the photo, which would open Preview, then just copy/paste into MS Word.
