Can I just copy the itunes media folder to the other mac?

No music is bought, it is all from CD or imported from other media.

Both macs are mine, not giving music to a friend or anything like that.

If you want to preserve your library structure and playlists, copy everything in the iTunes folder as opposed to just the iTunes Media folder. Saves a lot of time that way.

I have no playlists just use itunes as a player.

But thanks you, you have answered my question

You need to load the previous iTunes library. Go back to the iTunes folder and double click on the iTunes Library.itl file. It will open up iTunes.

copied the folders over. opened itunes.... no new music.
What do I need to do?

Make sure you copied the iTunes library to the "other Mac" (as well as all the music files) and then Press Option while opening iTunes to select the library.

It still did not work coping previous library

So I just selected add file to library and pointed it at the media folder.
Worked not sure was right way do it but all music there now.

that works too!

Dragging the folder with all the music to the iTunes window will update the songs / albums etc. - but not the play counts and playlists.

if you successfully transfer the library it will also have the play count and playlists etc from the other mac.

dont care for lay counts and like said have zero playlists anyway.

my way worked if not the right way lol
Thanks now know few ways to do it in future.
