Can anyone tell me if there's a way to copy content of a DVD (home movies) to my Mac's hard drive without having to download extra software. I just want to get the movies onto my computer so I don't have to fool with the DVDs. I'm looking for an easy way. I'm running High Sierra 10.13.6. Thanks so much!

... If you're comfortable with Terminal, yes. Otherwise, go download Handbrake and use that
Or one of several commerical 'Ripper' products. I use and am very happy with Mac DVD Ripper Pro:
