After all the frustrations around Active Directory and Lion I've decided to unbind my Mac and just log in locally (for now). To do that, I need to create a new local userid and then copy all the data from my network ID to my new userid.

The question is, how do I do it so that all the rights don't get messed up?

I did a bit of testing and things seemed to go wrong fast.

I have local admin A, network user B, and newly created local user C. (all are administrators)

I logged into A and even as admin could not see into C, so I added myself as read & write and forced it down to all files under C's user directory. I was then able to copy a directory from B to C, but immediately wasn't able to access those new files as user A. I logged into user C to test and couldn't access the folder either.

I'm assuming this isnt' like Windows where files will inherit the parent level as they are copied in.

Is there an easy way to do this? And are there files that need to run under permissions that would get messed up if I pushed new ones down from the parent folder?
