I just tried to copy a number from my contacts directory to add to a text I was returning to someone - it doesn't work! Either you press the contact number & dial them in the process, or if you hold your finger on the number nothing happens with the copy function. There is a section marked Share Contact, but that only works by emailing or MMS-ing the number.

Anyone else noticed this & maybe found a way round it?

memorize the number and type it out? i always do that, its not hard!

click to edit the contact and copy from in there.

cut, copy and paste isn't perfect yet.

Oh thank you for your solution, i have been trying to find a solution for this copy & paste problem for long time since i bought my iPhone. And finally you have given me the solution.

Works fine for me, I did it yesterday. You have to edit the contact, so that you can actually type in the number field, then press/hold, copy etc.

You have to select the number you want to edit so you go the next screen and there you can copy/cut.

The reason you can't do it on the main page is if you tap a number it dials it.

couldn't you just use the "share contact" button.

Using that counts as an mms message.
The copy contact app is what you need. Easy to use.

Don't really think that's the case, mine sends it as an email with a vCard attachment...

Share contact is via email, and is not a multimedia message...

When MMS is available with AT&T you can then hit share and an MMS option will come out like this:
