Copy Photos onto Mac and delete from iPhone

Hi - Can anyone help me - I need to delete all the photos on my iPhone 5S. How do I safely copy them over and then delete them without them deleting on the computer the next time I backup or plug my phone into the computer?

Whats the safest way? Don't want to lose any of my photos.

Open iphotos, it gives you the option to import and delete from iphone.

Do I plug my phone in using the USB cable? I have some photos on the MacBook already that are not on my phone? I don't want to sync, just incase I lose all the photos on my Macbook or my phone. Is tehre an iCloud setting I can turn off to do this import manually?
