Yes, I have an old PC computer running Windows XP. I have a lot of photos I want to copy over to the PC (using a cable for the file transfer.)

I have about 200 GB free on my 14PM and about 20 GB free space in iCloud (where my photos are backed up). The other thing is, I do not have Wi-Fi so am using mobile data.

The settings on my phone are "Optimise iPhone Storage" in iCloud and "Keep Originals" for the Transfer to Mac/PC option. The main question is, if I transfer via cable to PC will my photos be in their highest resolution? (I have 200 GB free on my phone). They are not RAW files, but about 4,000 heif photo files.

To download 4,000 photos from iCloud with Mobile data speed seems not viable. :(

I've never done this before, so any helpful advice would be welcome!

If you use the "keep originals" option in Transfer to Mac/PC then you will get the original .heif format files (edited with changes if you have made any adjustments on the phone) but these might not be readable on Windows XP. If you choose the "automatic" option you will get JPEG files but by the virtue of having to convert the file into a lossy format, might not be the same quality as the .heif (although whether you notice a difference or not is debatable).

Depends what you want to do with the files once you have got them on the computer; of you don't actually want to read the files on the Windows XP machine but just to use it to take a backup or further copy them to USB stick or something you can leave them in .heif (assuming you will have a compatible computer to read them on in the future).

Thanks for the helpful info! I will give it a try. I hope I don't have to have iTunes or any other specific software to do the file transfer.
