Copy TM sparse bundle contents to hard disk?

I know it's possible to copy a Time Machine drive to a networked sparse bundle, but I want to do it the other way.

How would I go about 'restoring' a sparse bundle image to a hard disk, so that TM will still work?

Disk Utility, etc won't do it. :(
