I got a wierd problem at work, and I dont really know who to ask for help. We're running an Xserve with 10.2.8, and due to having very little budget we cant afford to upgrade to Tiger server until absolutely necessary.

We have some students wanting to copy work to the server from the PCs, which 9/10 times works wonderfully. However every now and a get we get the following problem:

Student goes to put a file in their folder on the server, they get an error message saying "Cannot copy - file already exists. Do you want to replace the file?". However this file is 0KB, and is created as they try to copy, so it doesnt matter where they try and save it always brings up this problem.

Anyone come across this before? Or know anywhere where I could ask? Obviously, we dont have access to Apple's tech support anymore as the equipment was bought in 2001.
