I am trying to copy an Audiobook onto a USB memory stick on my MacBook Air (I have tried it on an old iMac without success). It is for a friend of mine who is blind and wants to listen to the book on an RNIB MP3 reader. All the MP3 files get copied and I have reset the permissions so everyone can have read/write access but the reader refuses to start playing it. I read somewhere that OS X will not create Autorun files on a memory stick but is there a work round to enable the memory stick to be played on an MP3 player device?

Have you tried VLC ?

Put the music files on the thumb drive (drag mp3's from itunes to thumb drive), create a playlist in VLC - make sure the order is correct < save the playlist to the thumbdrive

VLC should create a .m3u auto play file on the thmb drive - the playlist should work with iTunes or VLC off the drive on another computer
