Copying applications to external hd

Hi was just wondering if copying applications such as iDVD, iMovie, iWeb,Omni outliner to an external hard drive to save up a few megs hd space would be ok. if i then find i want to use them would they work ok if i dragged them back over to the applications folder.

They would try to work. The OS will call for information from the app with will be on another HD making the app not ba able to get info to the OS timely. I would advise against it. Try moving Documents instead.

could i reinstall them from the mac os discs or not?

you can re-install the applications on external HD, and it will run, do remember it will have a slower performance comparing to internal HDD. I run Cs3 beta, Office 2004 from external firewire HDD... no issue.
