I have a macbook which I will continue to use, but it has a lot of stuff I would like to put on my new iMac. I plan on using target disc mode, but wanted to know if this is the best way to do it. Also, are there any files I should not copy? Does it matter if the computers have different log-in names, etc.

You could plug in a FireWire cord into both computers, and each of the computers will show their hard drives on the other computers desktop.

I'm pretty sure there won't be any problems with the log-in names.

You can also use Setup Assistant to "migrate" your MacBook's documents to the new iMac.

Also I'd suggest this to make sure all of your applications are up-to-date after you transfer them: http://metaquark.de/appfresh/
