Copying Internet Explorer favorites into Safari bookmarks

Is it OK to simply copy the shortcuts in my Win XP Internet Explorer favorites folder to the Mac's bookmarks menu in Safari to use them, or are they incompatible in some way? I am using OSX 1.5.2.
