Copying nonstandard files to ipad

I got a separate media player for iPad, and it works fine for avi videos that I download from web sites, but how can I copy avi files from my computer to my iPad without having to convert them to the iPad's native format?

do it through itunes. open itunes, select your ipad, go to apps, and select which media player you are using, then you will be able to add your media files directly to that program
