Core Duo vs Core 2 Duo

Hi, i'm looking at getting my first mac... an imac either a refubed 20in or a new 17in.

My only problem is the refurb is Core DUO and the new one is Core 2 Duo... The price is basically the same... the new 17in comes standard with 1gb (more than enough for my multimeadia and office work.. advise me if not) and the 20in comes with 512mb ram... i want to make a maximum of $AUD2000 budget... i can also get the edu discount on the imac....

Personally I'd prefer the larger screen over the faster machine. Make sure you get a 1GB of RAM whatever you go for, it really makes a big difference.
