Corel Painter Essentials 2 question

I just purchased Graphire - which includes Corel Painter Essentials 2 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 3. I would like to copy selected areas from photos opened in Corel Painter Essentials and paste to a new canvas and work with the new canvas - similar to pasting into Paint in Windows. However, every time I try this the pasted selection is always much bigger than the original selection. How do I paste into the new canvas and keep the pasted selection the same as the original? Thanks for any suggestions.
