I have a spillage-damaged Mid 2009 MacBook Pro that matches this specification.

I need a replacement logic board.

Please can anyone confirm that the correct replacement model is A1278.

Correct, and to be more specific, you want either one of these part numbers (either will work in your machine):
661-5231 (2.53ghz Core 2 Duo)
661-5230 (2.26ghz Core 2 Duo)
