I just got some generic 19" LCD monitors to use as spares at work and I decided I'd better test them before the return/exchange window closes. (Had one panel from a previous purchase with a big red dot in the middle.) So I hooked it up to an old Yikes G4 via DVI and it's not showing the panel's native resolution as an option. The video card is stock. Original ATI Rage 128 Pro AGP with 16 megs. Nothing's hooked up to the analog port, just the new panel on DVI. My available options are 640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768 both stretched and non-stretched, as well as 1280x1024 (unstretched, I assume; there's only one choice). All available at 8, 16, and 32 bit color depths.

The displays preferences panel correctly identifies the monitor as CMV939D and gives me an option for a CMV939D color profile but the correct resolution (1440x900) is not available.

If I connect the monitor via analog, I have the correct native resolution available as well as a slew of additional non-native resolutions that aren't options using the DVI connection. I suppose analog would be acceptable if one of these monitors happened to end up being connected to one of our few remaining Yikes workstations but it'd be nice to be able to use the best connection available.

Any ideas? Is the DVI output on these cards limited to 1280x1024?
