Oh dear, I thought I'd collected dust and fluff on the base of my Studio display and tried to wipe it off.
No joy. Put it on its back to give a vigorous clean and found the creamy hard deposits on the underside of the base too.
It wouldn't come off, even using screen cleaner.

Turns out it's aluminium corrosion!

Checked the Mac Studio underneath, and it has two or three spots too.

They were both ordered 29 Feb 2024, so just over a year old.

Anyone else seeing this? Any ideas how to fix it??

No they're both on a big-ish desk and away from walls. The exposed parts are fine, it's the bottom of the display base, which sits on a very large rubber mouse mat, and the Mac Studio is also only corroding on the bottom, which sits on an iPad box on the desk (just to help protect it from any accidental coffee spills! :) ).

I live in the tropics, so it's a pretty humid environment, but I do use aircon usually, which dries the air, and it's sat next to my 2017 iMac which has been in the same place for over 7 years and it is absolutely fine.

EDIT - oops, just tipped the iMac on its back (never usually do that!) and it too has that corrosion, again only on the base. The iMac has rubber feet which the Studio display doesn't.....
