I have some old pictures and movies on both a hard drive and some data-DVD's. When I was gonna look through them I noticed that the movie-files that used to be AVI (or MOV, but I'm sort of sure it used to be AVI) as format had turn to jpg. I tried to change the format by renaming the file, VLC could open it then, but the first frame of the shot was frozen and I got no sound even though the file was playing. I also tried converting the files via a video converter, it didn't work as the "original" jpg-file or when I changed it to AVI before the conversion. Anybody who knows how to fix this?

I have the same problem. Did you find a solution yet or understand what happened to cause this?

Unfortunately no, have not found a solution. Don't know if the mac itself can have anything to do with it? I'm using a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.8., what do you use?
