Just wondering if anyone had an idea of what the cost of a MBP is to a retailer, such as BestBuy. Someone told me that the mark-up on them wasn't that high and that they usually depend on selling the insurance plans. It doesn't seem like it would work like that though. Anyone have a clue?

Used to work for CompUSA. Markup from cost was about 10-12%. But when you consider credit card fees, that profit margin drops considerably. I think Apple might give discounts to Mac-dedicated retailers though. I have two resellers in town that sell only Macs, and they seem to prosper.

Ya I would think something like would have to be going on, because $120-250 profit seems hardly worth it.

It depends on the retailer and the agreements they have worked out with Apple. I used to work for a third party privately owned "apple store" and our margin on the 1199 MBP was only about 120$. Yes it does make it hardly worth the trouble, but we did make a very decent margin on AppleCare.
