I have an early 2015, 13" rMBP whose battery is starting to go. I don't want to replace the machine, but would like to replace the battery. iFixit has a replacement set for under $200, but the job looks pretty involved and fraught with risk. Does anyone know how much a replacement would be to this battery from an Apple Store or Apple authorized repair shop? Wondering what to expect as I plan next steps. TIA.

Apple will charge you $199.00 to replace the battery if they have it on hand and when the stores open up again. An independent repair service might be less. If you can follow the instructions at ifixit, that might be the best way.

Thanks. If that pricing is correct, then it is basically about $30-40 more for Apple to do it than for me to do it myself. A no brainer risk assessment.

And for the additional money, Apple will most likely replace the entire top case, giving you a new keyboard and trackpad.

On a battery replacement? Is it all just one piece? I would be surprised to get all that for $199 as this is no longer under warranty. Pleasantly surprised, mind you, but surprised nonetheless.

That's the normal process since the battery is glued in.

Yeah just be sure to do it as soon as the shops open up again. They refused service on my 2013, claiming they no longer had the parts. They did the battery replacement 2 years ago, it was actually less than 199, was some strange amount like 163.65 or something.

I was just now chatting with an Apple rep online and they quoted me $219 for a mail-in battery replacement for my Early 2015 13" MBP. Since the prices have been coming down, I'll put that in my new-laptop fund and make this one a desktop for now...
