Sometimes, I wonder why we all put up with this company's shenanigans. I know this was shared on another thread, but I thought it deserved its own.

It really is a joke how basically the whole community has just jumped on board and in many cases even defended Apple as they gave us the consumer less and less choice and options for extending the life of our computers as well as give us reasonably priced storage solution. I wish there was an OS that I liked as much as Mac OS as I would love to jump ship. Mac OS is still the best for me and how I work. Tried Windows for a year and that was a nightmare, and not interested in Linux. I remember back in the good old days how easy it was to swap out a hard drive, or RAM. Even the unibody Intels were easy with an OWC upgrade to replace Apples proprietary drives, before Apple went above and beyond my soldering everything.

Replaceable, bootable storage should be a federal requirement.

Not sure it deserves its own thread though.

Who cares. Order right and it’s not an issue. How many times do you under-spec storage requirements enough to swap out a drive? When a Thunderbolt 4, pretty soon 5 drives are readily available.

All the time! Most people will buy a machine with the given specs and will not build to order.

Yeah, because peoples needs never change. I never understand why people are against something being upgradeable. Not being able to replace a hard drive would be like buying a car with tires you cannot change, once they go bald you buy a new car. Make sure you get the right tires to begin otherwise you are just out of luck.

Apple is developing this hardware, they can easily make it user replaceable with ease, but choose not to for the very reason you mention, people don't always buy what they need or their needs change. If you also want to be "green" this is the way to do it, machines will last a lot longer with RAM and HD being upgradeable. Not sure Mother Nature would be as impressed as she currently is with Apple if she knew this.
