I’ve been burned now by the 12.9” iPad Pro only getting Mini-LEDs Apple pushing people towards the higher end SKU. I have a feeling Apple will hold off on Mini-LEDs on the 14” Macbook Pro to entice people to buy the 16” MacBook Pro. How possible is this ?

I think it’s either going to be 16” only or neither of them getting a display upgrade… we already know miniLED is in severe short supply with the ongoing supply chain issues.

The miniLED MacBook Pro was initially dubbed for a late 2021 release, the same as the Air, then we heard about miniLED production issues plaguing the iPad Pro, then suddenly out of nowhere we hear that the MacBook Pro’s are coming in Summer 21’ and the MacBook Air has been pushed back to early 2022.

This is a huge indicator that Apple have decided to either give miniLED a miss this refresh or that only one model is getting it, I suspect neither will though.

I think the initial plan was to hold a Mac event in late 2021 refreshing the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air lines with brand new design language and miniLED, now Apple know that miniLED is not going to be ready in time, they have decided to get the Pro line out sooner rather than later ready for consumers going back to education, and left the Air to be refreshed later (as let’s be honest it’s going to be huge seller as it is).

The one thing that does concern me is what Apple have decided to do about the design refresh… if Apple are launching the 14” and 16” Pros sooner, will they just do what they did with the entry levels MacBooks and not change the design at all and just throw a supercharged M1 chip in them to see them through the next 12 months, or will they re-design it just without the miniLED….

We will know for sure most likely at WWDC…

I think people tend to get the screen size they want as that defines the outer dimensions of the device and one tends to pick one’s comfort zone.

Only nerds are upsold to a device they find too big.
