I think it would be cool to bring back the glowing Apple logo from their old computers but now to iPhone. There could be a setting that turns this feature off for those not interested. Additionally, offering customized features limiting it to light up maybe during a call, notifications, or a certain time of day. Does anyone feel the Glowtime event may be a hint to the return of a glowing Apple logo.. but now.. to iPhone?

FWIW, the glowing Apple logo of MacBooks is just showing the backlight for the LCD panel. It's easy to demonstrate this by shining a flashlight into the logo with the computer's backlight turned off.

Adding a glowing back logo to a phone would need an extra LED to provide illumination, which would use extra power from the battery.

I'm aware of the old MacBooks using the backlight of the LCD panel to strategically and simultaneously glow the Apple logo. I am hopeful after a decade of technology maybe they were able to bring it to an iPhone in some form or capacity since it was a customer favorite feature.

There'd need to be a cutout in the battery and/or circuit board in order for the back of the screen to have a clear path to the back of the phone. This also assumes that there's even a backlight on the display. For example, OLED displays emit light directly, rather than being backlit.

In short, it was a "freebie" on MacBooks because there wasn't anything between the backlight diffuser and the case. It's not a freebie on phones. I think most phone buyers wouldnt opt for an additional battery-draining feature that's purely cosmetic.

EDIT
I did a search for lighted iphone cases and found a bunch of results on Amazon and Ebay. The options are more extensive than I expected, and a typical price is $30 or less.

The way an iPhone is held means obscuring the logo most of the time with your hand. MagSafe connects to the center of the back where the logo is, plus taking into account how many people use cases and cover up the entire back anyways.... it doesn't sound like it would be worth it

...and for those who don't, would you really want a glowing logo bringing attention to your phone while you're using it in public?

Sure, it makes it easier to snatch in low-light conditions!

[…] since it was a customer favorite feature.
Who said it was a customer favourite feature? It was very obnoxious, unpractical at night, reduced quality and structure integrity of the screen and only served as a big ad for Apple when they had to build their brand recognition.

No chance whatsoever.

At WWDC, Apple described how the iPhone display in iOS 18 “glows” around the (bezel) edges of the display when interacting with Apple Intelligence.

Yes, Apple used the word “glow” when describing this UI animation. So “glowtime” is pretty straightforward and just referring to how the focus of iPhones 16 (and iOS 18) is Apple Intelligence.

Apple will probably also add Apple Intelligence to Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 3rd generation at this event. So those products are probably also getting the Apple Intelligence “glow” at the edges of their displays when interacting with Apple Intelligence in WatchOS 11.

It’s “Glowtime” because this is all about adding that Apple Intelligence “glow” to a bunch of new devices.

Definitely not expecting to see a glowing Apple logo for any Apple product in the future.

This makes sense!

Might have to upgrade my AW9 if the updates are that much better...

Looking forward to the event.
