Could it be that the reason we don't see any iMac that long is because of the new itv that should come later this year? Maybe apple want to integrate the tv features in iMacs, thus penetrating markets more easily?

Definitely not. They're two very different products. Just look at the screen size along: the iMacs top out at 27 inches which is a good size for a display, but an Apple TV would want to start at 35 inches at the very least and go as large as 55-65 inches.

I don't think there's any chance that they're the same product but wouldn't it be neat if the functionality was integrated in new desktops and eventually across the whole line, kind of like a replacement for front row? It would cost apple peanuts to put a seperate ARM chip etc in their mac line for running iOS. If the rumours of ATV opening up for developers is true that could be really interesting in the long run. It would probably annoy the hell out of some of the long term Mac users though. :)

I'd be amazed if we get and Apple smart TV like the ones from Samsung and the others. IMO they would be much better off using the current Apple TV box and upgrading it with more smart TV features, maybe even an add-on gestures controller. Meaning anyone with a decent HD TV could access it without spending $1000s on a new set, but rather a couple of hundred dollars.
