Could it be that next Studio Display will cost significantly less. Like they did with HomePod. I feel like Studio Display pricing has original HomePod vibes. There is too much needless stuff packed in Studio Display that drives the cost up. If they made it more simple and less expensive, it would be easier buy to go along Mac mini. Now I feel it’s hard to justify when the Studio Display costs like 3x base Mac Mini price.

I don’t think Gen 2 would cost anything less, but it is not impossible that Apple keeps Gen 1 in the lineup at a reduced price, as they do with older iPhones, iPads and Macs

Not sure what Studio Gen 2 is, but I expect the rumored ProMotion Mini-LED display to be a lot more expensive. Also that it will be a third offering vs. replacing either the ASD or XDR. Speaking of the XDR, it appears Apple is willing to run with a display for several years before updating it and the ASD isn't even a year old yet.

Apple rarely moves pricing down. Instead, the new items cost more and the previous gen maintains their price–with the possibility of throwing-in a previously available add-on (think of the height adjustment stand).

"Could Studio Display gen 2 cost less?"

I doubt it.

Next question?

I would like a 24" studio display with the same panel as the M1 iMac. It's an amazing display.

M1 iMac is an amazing deal for folks who appreciate retina font clarity.

I also like the 24 inch size. With all the recent fervor about the $1600 ASD, don't forget that Apple still sells the 24 inch LG UltraFine monitor. At $700, it would be a fine solution for many who are looking for something to pair with a Mac mini. Internal speakers and lots of ports. Perhaps even less $$ if you purchase from somewhere other than Apple.

... but they did so very recently on the Mac Mini, with the M2 being $100 cheaper than the outgoing M1 version, so there is a precedent for it.

Apple certainly didn't need to drop the Mini's price. Doing so hints that they would like to reach a different segment of the market - and I think a less expensive Studio display (or equivalent), such as a 24" version, would be perfect for this.
