It was mentioned that the S11 chip will be the exact same as the S10 and S9 chips, but could this be wrong?

Im looking to upgrade to an Apple Watch Ultra 3, and software longevity is very important to me, especially if I'll be blowing $800 on a watch, so ill want this thing to last a long time!

Now could Apple just be improving the Apple Watch's processor on the same "Sawtooth" core, just maybe improving it because they dont need the watch to have 2 nanometer process? Or is there a chance that Apple could be fooling us?

I will be skipping this year if the processor is identical to the S9 chip. Ive considered looking into Garmin but I feel that Apple Watch is too important to me, especially since I am developing an app for the Apple Watch.

Not digressing, but curious re what app you’re developing?

We need new apps for Apple Watch, so good luck to you.

historically AW rumors have been sparse and often wrong. And honestly I cannot remember who "leaked" this about the processor, any of the known ones? (Gurman, Kuo etc...)
I also do not remember Apple revealing any design details for the SiP other than I think for the S9 that they added neural cores ...

What are you concerned about the performance of the processor? I have an Ultra 2 as well as a S7, sure, the S7 is slower booting up. loading apps but actual app performance I cannot really see a difference ...

No, it can't be wrong because the source was Apple itself.

Multiple groups viewed the leaked code including MacRumors and Macworld.

Keep in mind Apple uses date of release to determine length of software support. Even if S11 uses the same T8310 architecture and has the same performance as S10, it doesn't mean S11 will be dropped at the same time as S10.

Watch processors are just made for efficiency. You’re not editing 4K video on your watch. Any improvements are going to be efficiency because the processor is more than powerful enough to do the little bit of things it does. I wouldn’t expect anything amazing with next year’s watch or the year after that. Battery life is the main category that will be improved.

As to spending $800 on an Apple Watch… If cost is a concern to you and you don’t have extra spending cash to use for TP then get the regular $399 Apple Watch. You’re paying for style that will die with the technology. It’ll last five years, but no guarantee past that. Even in that five years, there will be tech technological improvements that you might want. You could buy two of the $399 watches for the price of the $800 one. That means you can upgrade in half the time you plan to

While that has been the case with iPad recently Apple just dropped the Apple Watch Series 4, Series 5 and SE (1st Gen) last fall despite them being released in 2018, 2019 and 2020 respectively. They all had the same chip. I would not be at all surprised to see them drop the Series 6, 7 and 8, Ultra 1 and SE 2 all at once in a year or two.

Based on the leak the S11 will have the same (A16 based) cpu/gpu/npu chip as the S9 and S10. This is consistent with them using the same (A13 based) chip in the S6, S7 and S8. If software updates for as long as possible is important to you this is definitely the generation to skip. Probably fall 2026 there will be an Apple Watch chip, probably based on the A19 and that will be the one to get for software longevity.

I studied how Apple support software and besides the iPad, they look for the first number in the identifier, and drop those devices with that first number.

MacBookAir8,1 released in 2018
MacBookAir8,2 released in 2019
Yet both were dropped in 2024. I want to avoid this and get the most of my Apple Watch Ultra 3.

The days of giant leaps in technology are gone. Like the other poster stated, the processor’s main attribute needs to be saving power.
