...if you had to?

I don't think I could. I have the 8 and, whenever I pick it up, I try to use it like the X, flipping up to use the task switcher etc. It takes me a while to get used to the home button again. Consequently I don't use the 8 much, only in bed for podcasts and reading. If I had to, I could use it as a main phone but wouldn't like it.

However, on my iPad I'm used to the home button and as an iPad Pro 10.5" can't see myself upgrading anytime soon but I bet Apple will get rid of the button and have face ID on their next iteration of iPads.

Spoilt for choice and First World problems, but I think Apple have nailed it with the way one navigates the X - I can't see myself using anything different as a main phone.

I don't think it's necessarily not having a home button but I'm so used to the guestures on my X. I'm gonna have to put another launcher on my S9 Plus because it won't be seeing android P until next year.

Don't think I could go back to using a phone with large bezels now though.

I would love to have a fingerprint sensor on the back of my iPhone x. The Apple logo could double as a fingerprint sensor.

I only use the home button on my iPad to unlock it. After 8 months using the X, I’m looking forward to an iPad with no home button
Me too, but I can't justify it for a long while - at least as long as the iPad Pro 10.5 remains useable.

And I don't use it nearly enough; I have the Pencil, glad I didn't spring for the case. For me it's mainly been reading, Netflix, browsing etc. things which could be done on a much lesser tablet. One use, though, is as a kind of central console for my Google Play Music subscription, streaming it across the room to my Sony Hi-Fi.

I'm jailbroken and have been on every firmware (except iOS 11) since iOS 5.

I haven't had to use the home button if I didn't want to for a very long time.

Non-issue for me.

I am the same. Got my iPad pro 10.5 last year and have the keyboard and pencil so I'll have to keep it for a while.

Now that the kinks have been worked out for the most part in iOS 11, I prefer the gesture based navigation on the X and i wouldn't want to go back to using a home button.

In fact, that's the direction Android is going as well with Android P and in another couple years you'll be hard pressed to find a Flagship Android device with a home button. Might as well get used to it.

I'd imagine there will always be the option like Apple has in its accessibility section of having a virtual home button, but I agree, home buttons are on the way out.

Like other users have said, I only use the home button on my iPad to unlock. From there it’s all gestures; I especially like the updated gestures in iOS 12 that match the iPhone X.

My daughter has an SE, and whenever I go to do anything with it I find myself trying to use the gestures that I’ve grown accustomed to on the X. I’m not sure that I necessarily prefer one method over the other though... I think I could just as easily get used to using the home button again.

I switch between my X and 8 but much prefer the X, finding it difficult to get used to the 8 again.

The home button has been a clunky and very outdated process for years. Even when they changed it to be non-clickable with the 7 series it still felt slow. Dropping it all together and going with gestures is probably the best thing they could’ve ever done.

No but I'm bummed with the rumors of a orange large LCD phone and not an orange X.

Go Cuse!

It’s really irrelevant now, because the home button is no longer a part of the biometric security for the iPhone anymore with Touch ID now being used in place for future iPhones. Face ID is the option moving forward, therefore someone would want to have an older style iPhone simply just because of the home button, highly unlikely in most cases, unless they wanted an older form factor.

why would I want to??
Giving up the home button has given me more screen Real Estate
Hopefully more good things will come in future versions of the iPhone

Considering Apple is quite clear in eliminating the home button, we don't need to worry going back to it.
