I just installed CounterStrike on steam for osx. Can I use custom maps? I have one that I made a long time ago. Is there a certain location I should put the files?

Try ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/"Your_user_name"/counter-strike source/cstrike/maps

Just dump the map files into that folder and they should show up. At least it is the case in the windows version.

Works great, thanks! People new to CS on OS X: keep in mind that you must load up CS before this user name dir is created. I had downloaded CS:Source fresh off Steam on OS X and was navigating through the dir structure to place a new custom map inside, but my Steam user name directory didn't yet exist until I loaded up and started a game. Also, don't be surprised if you don't see the default maps in there; they must be packed away into the executable somewhere.
