Hey Guys,

I just downloaded and installed Growl notifications for my Mac. I have a few questions.

1. Without Growl, does OSX not do system notifications?
2. Really, what is Growl?

I don't know, can someone just explain to me what system notifications are and what Growl is doing differently?

For instance, without Growl my firefox extension, Gmail Notifier, doesn't pop up a new mail notification. With Growl it does. Does this mean OSX doesn't do system notifications normally?

No Mac OS does not.

Basicly growl works with a handful of third party apps just to display notifications in a sexy way. For example in Adium when you get a new mail, it pops up in the corner.

Ah, ok. So, how does it know for instance to pop up a notification for a Firefox extension?? Did that developer integrate with Growl?
