I've tried Cover Flow on a new Core 2 aluminium iMac and an older Core 2 white iMac, but it is very slow.
Problem one - whenever you see the icon, it takes 2 seconds for it to switch from low res to high res. It doesn't seem to have a cache, so every folder icon, for example, appears low res for a moment, even though they're all the same image.
Problem two - you'd think it would be speedy because it's only displaying previews. But if you have a folder full of high res images, say 20 megs each, it seems to read from each file in order to display the image. And even then it only displays low res previews.
Problem three - which leads me to the previews. Around half of the images on my system are displayed as low res, and about half as high res. I know 3rd party apps are an issue, but why doesn't Leopard have the option to create a new high res preview for EVERY image on the system. I don't mind waiting for a one time event, like Spotlight indexing.
