I've got a 20198 Mini. The status bar up at the top says that the CPU is running at 212*F. This doesn't seem possible. Is this a problem?

What are you doing on the computer when it says this? And what is the cpu fan speed at?

100C/212F is the max temp for the CPU, so if you’re doing something intensive it could hit that. But if it’s there all the time you might have a defective fan or temp sensor.

just because the 'status bar' (which app is that btw?) says '212 F' does not mean your mac is running at that temperature; if it in fact hit that temperature, it would be momentary.

it is a fun fact, tho, that 212 F is the exact temp of boiling water.... 🤔

I was just using Chrome and MS Word. After a bit, it dropped down to around 160. I just logged in today, and it's at 188. Seems to be working fine.

Chrome is well known to be a memory and processor pig. Depending on the web page, I also got some high fan/processor activity on my old Mac in the recent past, using an old version of Chrome. Check if you get the same with another web browser instead (on the same web pages), without Chrome in the background.
